HADDENHAM, UK - - Former European Ryder Cup star Peter Baker scored an emphatic win at this year's Irish Legends tournament - and used his SkyCaddie SX550 GPS on every hole.
After opening with a stunning bogey-free, six under par 66, Englishman Baker shot a spectacular new course record 63 at Seapoint Golf Links in County Louth in round two to lie 11 shots clear of the field going into the last day. After putting the tournament out of sight with eagle on the 10th in the final round, Baker shot two further birdies on the home stretch to finish with a disciplined three-under 69, beating Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez by seven shots.
The win, Baker's first on the Legends Tour since 2019, delighted both him and his wife Helen, who caddied for him in the tournament.
The three-time European Tour winner, who represented Europe in the 1993 Ryder Cup, said: "The SkyCaddie is a great bit of kit, the technology in it is superb, and it’s got everything you need on it.
“Wherever you are, carrying the bunkers, to the front of the green, to the back or middle of the green, it tells you the yardage you need to know."
14 other SkyCaddie GPS users finished in the top 20 and ties, meaning that SkyCaddie users secured an incredible 30 places in the top 20 and ties in the two Legends Tours events in the last fortnight.
Baker’s Irish Legends win was the second consecutive week on the Legends Tour where a SkyCaddie GPS user picked up a victory, after Australian Richard Green won the Jersey Legends event at La Moye seven days previously.
This run of success continues SkyCaddie's recent dominance on the Legends Tour, after over two-thirds of players on the Tour used its GPS devices last season.
"There's no doubt nowadays that if you’re serious about competing for the win, SkyCaddie GPS is an essential tool for most players" said SkyCaddie's James Holmes.
"The talented golfers on the Legends Tour appreciate how it gives them reliable, ground-mapped yardages to layups, hazards and target landing spots from tee to green, anywhere on the golf course - making blind shots a thing of the past."
Baker also finished third in the previous week's Jersey Legends event. "Winning a tournament with Helen caddying for me was one of my big ambitions. I lost my mother just five weeks ago, so I think I had a bit of help from above" he said.
Baker's amateur team in the popular Celebrity Series Team Event on the Legends Tour also finished in first place, with ex England footballer Teddy Sheringham leading the way to victory.
